Manso to the Border / Limitless Adventure

The transfer takes us towards the southern part of Nahuel Huapi National Park. We’ll drive down the famous Ruta 40 highway for 70 kms, passing the Gutierrez, Mascardi and Guillermo lakes. When the road meets the Villegas River, we turn west for 30 km down a dirtroad to get to Tierraventura, our base camp.
We’ll recharge our energy after the long drive with a delicious breakfast. The base camp is where we’ll listen to the guides give a safety talk, gather our gear and get ready to hit the water.

The first part of today’s section of the Manso heads through a narrow canyon, with the Cerro Bastión peak and its many waterfalls at our side. The “Velvet Canyon” is the last peaceful section; as soon as we’re through it, we’ll be welcomed by “The First Rapid” where it’ll become clear that calm is behind us and action lies ahead!

With short breaks in between, we’ll start dropping through the chain of rapids that run from entertaining Class IIs to violent Class IVs like “The Devil’s Intestine” or, ironically, the rapid known as “Relax”.

The raft will shake and rattle, so it’s very important to pay attention to instructions from our guides. The Safety Kayaker is always at our side providing optimal safety, and allowing us to really enjoy the adventure.

The “International” Rapid is a Class II that announces our arrival at the international  border and the end of the day’s rafting.
Once we’re back into warm clothes, we head back to our camp at Tierraventura for lunch. An incredible ‘asado criollo’ typical Argentine barbecue, and a glass or two of Patagonian bi-varietal wines await. The stories of adventure are non-stop. The group’s had its fill of adrenaline, so it is time to head back to Bariloche.
